Curly Hair, Been There: New York City (Part One)

Curly Hair, Been There is a segment that explore the different places in the world I have been, and my experiences there. I recently went on holiday to New York and over the next few weeks I'm going to share all the cool things I did while I was there. Since I was there for a week, this is going to be a seven part series, a post for each day. So, let's get started!

Curly Hair, Been There: New York City (Part One)

I love this city. That's the first thing I'll say. As soon as I left that airport and got into the city, I was so happy. It was everything I ever dreamed it'd be. Overall, my week's trip to New York was amazing.

We landed at JFK airport at about 4pm local time, after a long seven hour flight with American Airlines. The in flight entertainment and food was good, this was our meal:

The excitement hit most when we were flying over the country and saw the ground from the window of the plane; we were nearly in New York!
Pretty cool view right?
Because we arrived fairly late, all we did on the first day was land, get to our airbnb, which was a lovely little flat in Brooklyn (a great borough by the way, would definitely recommend) and go and grab some snacks from on of the stores on our street.
A nice view on the way
Our first day there was a great experience of the city, and we sat in our room planning the week and what exactly we would do the following day.

My post for Tuesday will be up next week, so make sure to follow my socials to keep updated!

Curly Cooks: Victoria Sponge

Since we're all stuck inside for lockdown, many people are currently baking to pass the time, including me! So, Curly Cooks is a series on the various items that I'm making while on lockdown, most of which will carry personal stories. Today's recipe is the simplest of simple British bakes: Victoria Sponge. Curly Cooks: Victoria Sponge Everyone knows and loves victoria sponge: it's a classic afternoon tea staple, and if you've never made it, now is the time! It's super easy and it's an instant crowd pleaser. Let's get into it. Jump to recipe First, gather your ingredients: In order: sugar, margarine, vanilla extract, baking powder, eggs, self-raising flour Measuring the ingredients is easy, if you don't know the exact amounts, or if you want to increase or decrease the quantity, then weigh the eggs, and use about the same weight of everything else. For example, my four eggs weighed around 235g: So minus the ...

Curly Hair, What's in There?: Crazy Ex-Girlfriend

One of my favourite series, Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, is ending next week. So sad, I know. And the last episode was very dramatic. So, I'm going to explore the events and how I think the series is going to end. If you haven't seen it, the show is the story of Rebecca Bunch (Rachel Bloom), a successful New York lawyer who decides to uproot her life to move to West Covina, California to follow a boy she dated at camp, Josh Chan (Vincent Rodriguez III). She gets a job at a law firm, makes friends and stalks Josh until she finds out he is actually engaged to Valencia (Gabrielle Ruiz), a girl he went to school with. Rebecca ends up going out with Josh's friend Greg (Santino Fontana/Skylar Astin- will explain later), who ends things with her to move and go to business school. Then, the law firm gets bought out and Rebecca gets a new boss, Nathaniel (Scott Michael Foster), who isn't the nicest guy. They have a thing but later split up as well. Eventually Rebecca decides that s...

Curly Hair, What's in There? Queer Eye

Curly Hair, What's in There?  is a segment that will explore the random topics that are always circling my mind, things I want to talk about or things I want to share. Queer Eye Right, so if you are in any way aware of current popular culture, you'll have heard of Queer Eye, the Netflix reboot of the classic show where five gay men (the so-called "Fab Five") makeover people. Season three landed on Netflix yesterday (March 15) and I am living, I've already watched it all. If you've not already seen this show, lemme tell you why you should. First off, it's not your typical makeover show. Like yeah, I get it, you're thinking "it's a bunch of fashion conscious gay guys so it is" but it's really not. I mean, they do have aspects of that, they makeover their wardrobe, their look, their living space, but they do so much more. In just a week, they seem to makeover peoples' lives. As well as the three aforementioned aspects, ther...
